I am a 48 year old male soldier. I enlisted in 1982, was commissioned in 1985 and I am currently serving in Afghanistan, after having served a year in Iraq. This is my third mobilization, the first occurred in 2005. I am not opposed to this war, rather I am opposed to the negative effects not only on my fellow Americans, but the Iraqi and Afghan people as well. In addition, war in general is an audacious act, no matter who started it, who ends it or whether one side is justified in participating.
Even in our comfortable American lives we relish winners and sometimes taunt the losers; baseball, football, basketball, ultimate fighting, TV ratings, business wars, college admissions, military promotions, etc. etc.
Perhaps war is engrained in the very fabric of our society or that of mankind as a whole.
The Audacity of War.
Personally I believe that we can get by without war yet that will take some work on the part of individuals and governments alike. It will be a great day when our differences can be settled though less traumatic or destructive methods.
It is my hope that this blog will not only be one of my views, rather I look forward to hearing your ideas and thoughts on the subject of war, keeping in mind not to let this blog become a war of words.
